Last May, I went to my friend Jeffie Khalsa's house in the Shasta neighborhood in San Jose to experience her gorgeous flower garden in peak bloom.

Jeffie's garden is a dreamy meadow featuring a curated and self-seeking collection of stunning poppy varieties from bright to subtle hues. Several different colors of Scabiosa, as well as larkspur and sweet pea are also stars. Earlier in the spring, native flowers such as California poppies, clarkia, and baby blue eyes brightened the front yard and parking strip. The effect was a truly immersive experience for strolling neighbors. I was lucky enough to go home with a little bouquet.

My favorite part about Jeffie's garden was how bold colors and pastels, hot colors and cool ones all blend and complement each other in a seamless kaleidoscope. Jeffie is a talented florist that creates bouquets, wreaths and flower crowns for weddings and events. She also does seasonal workshops and has produced work for community fundraising events.
